Once periods begin, iron needs rise — and low iron usually announces itself as tiredness, breathlessness on stairs, or fading focus in the last class of the day.

Everyday sources do real work: rajma, chana, poha, til, jaggery, and greens like methi. Pair them with a source of vitamin C — lemon, amla, tomato — and the iron absorbs better.

Tea and coffee right after meals hold iron back. Shift them an hour away from food — a small change with an outsized effect.

If tiredness persists, a doctor’s check comes first. Food supports what your doctor finds; it does not replace the finding of it.
